# 3 NYIT TURN BACK CHARGERS LACROSSE

Old Westbury, NY (4/25/09) The #3 New York Institute of Technology Bears defeated the visiting Dominican College Chargers, 19-7 this afternoon in East Coast Conference (ECC) men's lacrosse action.
The Bears attacked early with five unanswered goals before freshman Tyler Douglas (St. Albert, AB) netted a man up goal off the dish by Jesse Peterson (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) to cut the lead to 5-1.
NYIT closed out the first quarter and continued in the second quarter with a 6-0 run to take a commanding 11-1 lead before senior attacker Jeremy Arcaro (New Windsor, NY) ended the half with a goal off the pass from junior Sean Murphy (Pearl River, NY) to put the Bears up 11-2.
The Chargers struck first in the third quarter as freshman attacker Korin Pierce (Middleburg, VA) scored the goal in the first minute off the assist by junior Christopher Krutzler (Rockville Centre, NY) to make the score 11-3. A 3-0 spurt by NYIT extended their lead to 14-3, but the Chargers put together a 2-0 run on goals by Murphy and Arcaro with assists given to Arcaro and Pierce for a 14-5 Bear lead. An NYIT goal closed out the third quarter as they led 15-5.
Pierce opened up the fourth quarter with his second goal of the game off the pass by Douglas, but the Bears went on a 4-0 run to regain a 19-6 lead. Pierce closed out the scoring with the hatrick off the pass from Murphy with 1:10 left in the game for the final 19-7 NYIT victory.
Pierce led the Chargers with four points (three goals, one assist), while Arcaro had three points (two goals, one assist) and Murphy also finished with three points (one goal, two assists) in the loss. Sophomore goalie Brendan Bonacum (Port Jefferson Station, NY) had 12 saves in 30:00 minutes, while Tim Manzella (Riverhead, NY) had nine saves in 30:00 in the net.
With the loss Dominican falls to 2-11 overall and 0-5 in the ECC, while #3 NYIT improves to 10-1 overall and 5-1 in the ECC.
