MEN'S BASKETBALL DEFEAT CHESTNUT HILL COLLEGE

(1/26/13) The Dominican College men's basketball team defeated the visiting Chestnut Hill College Griffins, 94-86, this afternoon in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest played on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center. With the win, the Chargers improve to 16-3 overall and 10-1 in conference play.

With the win, the Chargers improve to 16-3 overall and 10-1 in conference play.
Before the game, the Chargers held the annual Bobby Mulligan Memorial ceremony and awarded the Bobby Mulligan Scholarship to junior Johnathan Brown (Cental Islip, N.Y.).
The Chargers scored a season high 94 points in the game, while shooting 53.0% from the floor and 50.0% from the three point arc.
The first half saw eight tied scores through the first 19 minutes until a free throw put the Griffins ahead 47-46 with 44 seconds to play. Junior guard Khaleev Ginyard (Brentwood, N.Y.) hit a jump shot with 34 ticks to give DC a 48-47 lead at the break.
Ginyard scored 16 points in the first half, shooting 6-6 from the floor and a perfect 4-4 from the three point arc.
Forward Nick Smith (Middletown, N.Y.) came off the bench to score 15 points and four rebounds in the first half.
The Griffins trailed 61-60 with 11:31 to go when the Chargers went on a 13-1 run to go ahead 74-61 with just over seven minutes remaining.
CHC cut the lead to five points with 1:41 on the clock, but back-to-back dunks from Smith made the score 90-81 and Dominican went on to the 94-86 victory.
Smith led all scorers and five Chargers in double figures with a career high 27 points and added nine rebounds.
Ginyard added 19 points, while Cory Quimby* (Otisville, N.Y.) added 13 points and a game leading 11 caroms.
Senior Daniel Woods (Upper Marlboro, Md.) scored the double-double of 12 points and 10 boards, while Leon Porter II (Laurel, Md.) netted 11 points and a game leading nine assists in the win.
The Chargers are back in action on Tuesday when they travel to Caldwell College.
