CHARGERS BASKETBALL UPENDS POST UNIVERSITY
Waterbury, Conn. (1/23/13) The Dominican College men's basketball team defeated host, Post University, 68-63, this evening in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) North Division clash at the Drubner Center. With the win, Dominican maintains the top spot in the North Division with a record of 9-1 and improves to 15-3 overall. Post University falls to 11-8 overall and 7-5 in conference play.

The Eagles led for most of the first half and were up 21-12 with 9:16 to play when the Charger offense awoke and out scored Post 23-13 over the next 36 points to go into the break with a 35-34 advantage.
Dominican shot better from the floor in the first half, 44.8% to 41.4%, but the Eagles were better from the three-point arc, 55.6% to the Chargers' 33.3%.
A Leon Porter II (Laurel, Md.) layup with 12:26 remaining in the second half tied the game at 47-47 and Dominican completed a 12-2 spurt, with five of the points from Porter, to build up a 59-47 lead with under eight minutes to go in the contest.
Post rallied to tie the game at 57-all with 5:58 on the clock and were up 63-61 when Charger forward Nick Smith (Middletown, N.Y.) provided instant offense with back-to-back layups in the paint and later converted one of two free throw to put DC back ahaed 66-63 with 22 ticks left on the clock. After two missed three-point attempts by the Eagles, junior Johnathan Brown (Central Islip, N.Y.) got the rebound and was fouled. He converted both free throw opportunities to complete the 68-63 DC victory.
Senior center Cory Quimby* (Otisville, N.Y.) had the game's only double-double with a night best 17 points and 13 rebounds.
The Charger bench accounted for 28 points as Smith finished with a career high 15 points and A.J. Burton (New Rochelle, N.Y.) scored 13 points.
Porter tallied 12 points in the win.
Dominican finished the game shooting 52.0% (26-50) from the floor, compared to the Eagles 39.3% (24-61). The Chargers also dominated the boards, out rebounding their opponents, 39-27.
DC will host the 25th Annual Bobby Mulligan Memorial Basketball Game this Saturday on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center. Game time is set for 4pm against CACC foe, Chestnut Hill College.
