DOMINICAN'S PORTER NAMED CACC PLAYER OF THE WEEK

New Haven, Conn. (11/12/12)  Dominican College senior Leon Porter (Laurel, Md.) has been honored as the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Men's Basketball Player of the Week, for the period ending Nov. 11. Holy Family freshman Hunter Wysocki (Colts Neck, N.J.) was selected as the CACC Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week.

 

CACC MEN'S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
LEON PORTER, DOMINICAN (Sr., G, Laurel, Md.)
Posted 20.0 points and four assists while shooting 50 percent from the field (7-of-14) over Dominican's 1-1 week. Scored 24 points while shooting 7-of-11 from the floor in victory over Bentley College.

 

CACC MEN'S BASKETBALL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
HUNTER WYSOCKI, HOLY FAMILY (Fr., F, Colts Neck, N.J.)
Averaged 10.0 points and 6.5 rebounds over a pair of games last week, which saw Tigers post a 1-1 overall record. Notched first career double-double in first-ever collegiate game, a double-overtime win over Cedarville.

 

CACC MEN'S BASKETBALL HONORABLE MENTION
ERVIN EZELL, HOLY FAMILY (Jr., G, Deptford, N.J.)
Averaged 21.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and four steals over a pair of games last week for the Tigers, which saw them post a 1-1 record overall. Led Holy Family in scoring in both contests and hit game-winning basket in double-overtime in victory over Cedarville.

 

GARRET KERR, USCIENCES (So., G, Mooretown, N.J.)
Extended his streak of double-doubles to 21 with 17 points and 13 rebounds in opening game of season against the District of Columbia.

 

JERRY CUMMINGS, POST (Jr., F, Queens, N.Y.)
Averaged double-double with 12.5 points and 10 rebounds as Eagles posted a 1-1 record last week at Molloy Tip-Off. In 79-78 victory over Queens, he registered a career-best 23 points.

 

CACC MEN'S BASKETBALL TEAM NOTES
BLOOMFIELD - The Deacons came up on the short end of each of their contests this week, falling in overtime in the season opener to the New York Institute of Technology and to non-conference opponent Pace University Saturday afternoon. Junior guard Dondre Whitmore (Trenton, N.J.) led Bloomfield with 20 points and three steals in the opener, while sophomore guard Marvin Williams (Jersey City, N.J.) netted 18 points in the setback. Junior guard Terry Hicks (Neptune, N.J.) totaled 15 points in the club's loss to Pace University Saturday afternoon, while senior forward Jon Bradley (Jersey City, N.J.) totaled 11 points and eight rebounds in the setback.

 

CALDWELL - The Cougars opened the 2012-13 season at the Bentley Tip-Off Conference Challenge this weekend, losing to the host Falcons on Friday and to Merrimack on Saturday. Sophomore Michael Balkovic turned in a double-double against Bentley with 22 points and 11 rebounds. Senior Art Morrison had a double-double vs. Merrimack on Saturday with 16 points and 10 boards to go with two blocks. This week Caldwell plays at Mercy on Wednesday before taking on Assumption and Bridgeport at Dominican's Daniel Sullivan Memorial Tournament this weekend.

 

CHESTNUT HILL - The Chestnut Hill College men's basketball team opened the 2012-2013 season with a challenging contest at #22 Stonehill College on Saturday, November 10. The Griffins delayed the Skyhawks dominance until midway through the second half, when they escaped from the grind with a game-ending 34-20 run for a 78-59 victory. The Griffins gave a balanced effort, as three tied for a team-high, nine points.

 

CONCORDIA - Concordia opened their 2012-13 season at the St. Rose Tournament with matchups against St. Anselm on Saturday and St. Rose on Sunday. The Clippers would fall in both games to begin the season at 0-2. For the upcoming week Concordia will host Dominican (N.Y.) in the 3rd Annual Jimmy Sayegh Game on Wednesday evening. The game also marks the first CACC game of the season. The Clippers will end the week with a non-conference battle at Merrimack on Saturday afternoon.

 

DOMINICAN - The Chargers opened up the season with a 1-1 record this past weekend at the Bentley Tip-Off Classic. DC fell to Merrimack, but defeated Bentley in the finale of the tournament.

 

WILMINGTON - The Wildcats dropped its season opener for the fifth season in a row, this year against Southern New Hampshire 70-55 and fell to preseason No. 10 Franklin Pierce, 78-60, on Saturday. Brandon Fox collected a double-double on Friday against SNHU with 16 points and 11 boards while James Pee led the team with 17 points against Franklin Pierce. The Wildcats open their home schedule this Wednesday against Kutztown before going to Millersville on Saturday.
