MEN'S BASKETBALL ADVANCES TO CACC SEMI-FINALS
Orangeburg, NY (2/25/12) The Dominican College men's basketball team, the second seed in the north division, advanced to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Tournament Semi-Finals after defeating the third seed in the south division, Chestnut Hill College, 79-70 this evening on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center.
Orangeburg, NY (2/25/12) The Dominican College men's basketball team, the second seed in the north division, advanced to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Tournament Semi-Finals after defeating the third seed in the south division, Chestnut Hill College, 79-70 this evening on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center.
The score was tied at 19-19 when Dominican went on a 9-0 run, with seven of those points coming from guard Leon Porter II* (Laurel, MD), to give them a 28-19 lead. DC led by as many as 15 points (40-25) with 3:22 to go in the first stanza and held a 42-33 lead at the break. Porter ended the first half with 17 points, shooting 7-10 from the floor and 3-4 from three point range.
Dominican led 66-56 with just over six minutes remaining in regulation when the Griffins went on a 13-6 run to cut the deficit to 72-69 with 1:43 on the clock. With no timeouts remaining, CHC was forced to foul and the Chargers closed out the game with a 7-1 run, going 7-8 from the charity stripe, for the 79-70 victory.
Porter led all scorers with 27 points.
Center Cory Quimby* (Otisville, NY) and senior Michael Calzonetti (Gloucester, NJ) both posted double-doubles of 14 points and 11 rebounds, while Calzonetti added a team leading four assists in the victory.
A.J. Burton (New Rochelle, NY) came off the bench to grab eight rebounds and five points.
With the victory Dominican improves to 19-8 overall.
DC returns to action on Friday when they take on Goldey-Beacom College, the second seed in the south division. Game time will be 12pm at Caldwell College.
