POST AND DOMINICAN WIN ON FIRST NIGHT OF 6TH ANNUAL JAMES CLANCY MEMORIAL TOURNAMENT
Orangeburg, NY (1/2/12) The Post University and Dominican College men's basketball teams won their first round games of the 6th Annual James Clancy Memorial Tournament played this evening on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center. Post defeated Queens College in a thriller, 71-70, while host Dominican defeated Dowling College, 76-62.
Orangeburg, NY (1/2/12) The Post University and Dominican College men's basketball teams won their first round games of the 6th Annual James Clancy Memorial Tournament played this evening on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center. Post defeated Queens College in a thriller, 71-70, while host Dominican defeated Dowling College, 76-62.
Dowling opened up the game with four straight points, before the Chargers netted two three point baskets by Khaleev Ginyard (Brentwood, NY) to go ahead 6-4. Dominican led 24-19 with 9:18 left in the first half when they went on a 17-7 run to extend the lead to 41-26 and went into the intermission with a 41-33 advantage.
The Golden Lions tied the game at 43-all early in the second half, but the Chargers charged ahead with a run of 19-5 to re-claim a 62-48 lead with 8:35 to go in the game and never looked back en route to the 76-62 victory.
Ginyard led all players and was one of four Chargers in double figures with a career high 23 points, all from three point range as he shot 7-11 and was 7-12 from the floor. Center Cory Quimby (Otisville, NY) tallied 17 points and eight caroms.
Leon Porter (Laurel, MD) and Johnathan Brown (Central Islip, NY) netted 13 points and 11 points respectively off the bench, while Brown added a team leading 11 rebounds. Preston Smith (Mays Landing, NJ) had a game leading eight assists in the win.
With the victory, Dominican improves to 7-4 overall while Dowling falls to 3-6 on the season.
In tonight's first game, Zach Kirscher hit a trey with 0:01 remaining in regulation to lift Post University to a 71-70 victory.
Tomorrow night's games will feature Post University versus Dowling College at 6pm and the finale will see Queens College take on host, Dominican College at 8pm on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center.
