PORTERS EARNS MENS BASKETBALL WEEKLY AWARDS
New Haven, CT (11/21/11) Dominican College's Leon Porter has been named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Player of the Week. Marcus Porter of Goldey-Beacom collects his first Rookie of the Week.
New Haven, CT (11/21/11) Dominican College's Leon Porter has been named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Player of the Week. Marcus Porter of Goldey-Beacom collects his first Rookie of the Week.
Porter, a 5-6 guard from Laurel, MD averaged 25.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 2.5 steals while going 2-0 on the weekend. He shot 18-for-34 from the field while draining seven shots behind the arc five of which came in a overtime victory against Molloy 80-81.
M. Porter, a 6-4 forward from Wilmington, DE averaged 16.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists. Scoring 20 points in a win against Saint Michaels.

Nick Christian, Philadelphia (So., G, 6-1, Bensalem, PA) - Averaged 15.5 points, 12.0 rebounds, 6 assists, 4 blocks, and 3.5 steals.
Khiry Hankins, Holy Family (Jr., G, 6-1, Cincinnati, OH) - Averaged 20.0 points and three rebounds while picking up three victories.
Argelix Gil, Concordia ( Jr., F, 6-5, Brooklyn, NY) - Recorded 25 points against NYIT. Averaged 14.3 points by shooting 15-of-26 from the floor and grabbing 7.3 rebounds on the weekend.
CACC Notes
Bloomfield Deacons fell to 0-3 on the young season this week, as they dropped a 90-82 home decision to non-conference opponent CW Post University. Senior forward Matt Wafula led the offensive attack with his second double-double of the season, totaling a team-high 24 points and 10 rebounds. Ahmad Harris finished one point shy of a triple-double, going for nine points, 11 rebounds and a game-high 12 assists to go with four steals in an outstanding all-around effort, while Matthew Hall came off the bench to tally a career-high 19 points on 8-14 shooting. Jon Bradley also played well in reserve, posting 12 points, 6 rebounds and a pair of blocks.
Caldwell Cougars opened the 2011-12 campaign with two wins in their first three games, which included a trip to Florida for the Eckerd Tournament in St. Petersburg, Fla. Caldwell defeated Mercy 81-70 in the season opener at home behind 20 points from senior guard Nik Otovic. Freshman guard Kevin Walker tallied 19 points to help the Cougars start their Florida trip with an 87-71 win over Palm Beach Atlantic on Friday. Host Eckerd handed Caldwell its first loss of the season on Saturday, as freshman forward Michael Balkovic racked up 25 points and 13 rebounds in the loss. The Cougars play at NYIT on Tuesday in their only game of the week.
Chestnut Hill senior guard Brandon Williams recorded his 1,000 career point on a momentous layup with 10:19 remaining in the second half. The bucket gave the Griffins a 62-55 lead and helped seal the win over the Pioneers while etching Williams into Chestnut Hill College Athletics history as the fourth 1,000-point scorer for the men's basketball program. Senior forward Dan Comas remains five points shy (955 points) of the 1,000-point plateau, he'll have the opportunity to become the fifth Griffin to reach the milestone this Tuesday, November 22, when the Griffin host West Chester University in a 7:00 p.m. contest.
Concordia defeated NYIT last Wednesday in the 2nd Annual Jimmy Sayegh Game, 92-81 prior to participating in the DoubleTree Doc Jacobs Classic at St. Michael's College on Friday and Saturday. The Clippers edged out a close victory against St. Michael's after a game winning layup by Argelix Gil with only five seconds to go. Concordia will have an off week for the holiday but will be back in action on Wednesday, November 30th as they open up their conference schedule on the road against Felician.
Dominican Chargers went 2-0 this weekend as they hosted the DC Tip-Off Tournament to improve to 4-0 on the season. Junior Cory Quimby averaged a double-double 19.5 points and 14.5 rebounds, while Leon Porter averaged 25.0 points and 5.5 assist. In the victory over STAC 4 out of 5 DC starters scored in double figures.
Felician for the second consecutive year, Felician suffered a two-point loss to AIC. The Golden Falcons completed a three-game season-opening stretch against Northeast-10 Conference opponents. Their other five non-league games this season are against ECC foes.
Goldey-Beacom Lightning put their school-record 11-regular season game home winning streak at the Jones Center on the line Saturday when they host Bridgeport at 4 p.m. They have won 12 straight in their home gym including their CACC Quarterfinal win last year over USciences.
Holy Family starts its season 3-0 after picking up three road wins to start the 2011-12 campaign. The Tigers began the week with a victory at Clarion (88-65) on Tuesday and then came through with a win at Merrimack (84-71) on Friday and capped the week with a 67-63 victory at New York Tech on Saturday. Holy Family's three straight victories is its largest winning streak since the 2007-08 season when the Tigers had two six-game winning streaks during the course of the season. Against Clarion, sophomore Alberto Munoz had a perfect night as he shot 10-of-10 from the field, including 5-of-5 from three to finish with a game-high 25 points. Junior Khiry Hankins finished the week leading the team in scoring as he averaged 20.0 points per game. Scored a season-high 23 points in the win against Merrimack.
Philadelphia continues their slow start as the Rams drop games to U-Mass Lowell and Merrimack despite strong performances from the backcourt tandem of Nick Schlitzer and Nick Christian. Up next for the Rams his St. Thomas Aquinas College on Sunday, (11/27) at 2:00 PM.
Post University played one game this week falling to St. Anselm 70-41. On Tuesday the Eagles host their first home game of the season against the University of Bridgeport. It is a start of the three game home stand as Post will host C.W. Post on November 30 and Felician on December 3.
USciences Devils are off this week and return to action with a non-conference game against Millersville University on Nove. 30th. The game will be the Devils home opener.
