CHARGERS BASKETBALL WIN IN OVERTIME OVER MOLLOY COLLEGE

Orangeburg, NY (11/18/11)  The Dominican College men's basketball team improved to 3-0 on the season with an 81-80 win over the visiting Lions of Molloy College this evening in the second game of the Dominican College Tip-Off Tournament being played on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center.  In the first game, St. Thomas Aquinas College defeated Nyack College, 61-42.

The Chargers held a 25-15 lead with 7:22 remaining in the first half when the Lions came back with an 8-2 run to cut the deficit to 27-23 with just over two minutes left in the first stanza.  Later a layup by junior Cory Quimby (Otisville, NY) with half a minute to go gave DC a 33-26 advantage, but Molloy closed out the half with two free throws to make the score 33-28.

Dominican led 71-64 with 1:50 left in regulation when Molloy scored seven unanswered points, including a three point basket with one tick left on the clock to tie the game at 71-71 at the end of regulation.

The Lions scored the fist basket of the overtime period, but the Chargers came back with a 6-0 run to re-claim a 77-73 lead.  After two Molloy free throws, sophomore Khaleev Ginyard (Brentwood, NY) hit a jump shot and Leon Porter (Laurel, MD) hit two key free throws to make the score 81-75.  The Lions then scored five straight points to cut the lead to 81-80, but Dominican held on for the victory.

Porter led all scorers with 27 points and tallied seven rebounds and six assists.  Quimby recorded his third double-double of the season with 19 points and 13 caroms, while Ginyard finished with nine points in the victory.

Tomorrow, Nyack and Molloy face off at 5:30 pm, while St. Thomas Aquinas College will face Dominican College at 7:30 pm.
