MEN'S BASKETBALL UPENDS PACE UNIVERSITY

Pleasantville, NY (11/12/11)  The Dominican College men's basketball team improved to 2-0 after defeating host, Pace University, 55-52 this evening in the finale of the 2011 Pace University Tip-Off Classic played at the Goldstein Fit Center.  With the loss, the Setters fall to 1-1 on the season.

DC trailed 17-13 with 4:30 remaining in the first half, but an 11-4 run by the Chargers to close out the half saw them take a 26-21 advantage.  Junior Cory Quimby* (Otisville, NY) ended the half with an and-one play.

Dominican's biggest lead of the game came early in the second half as they led 31-23.  Tied at 50-all with just under two and a half minutes remaining in regulation, the Chargers got back-to-back layups from Daniel Woods (Upper Marlboro, MD) and guard Leon Porter II* (Laurel, MD) put the team up 54-50.  A DC foul put the Setters on the charity stripe where they hit both to make the score 54-52 with 0:42 on the clock.  Porter closed out the game going 1-2 from the free throw line for the 55-52 victory.

Quimby led all scorers with this second double-double of the season with 22 points (8-11 from the floor, 10-12 from the free throw line) and a game leading 11 rebounds.

Porter finished with nine points and a team leading five assists, while Woods and Khaleev Ginyard (Brentwood, NY) each scored eight points a-piece in the win.

Dominican returns to action next Friday and Saturday when they host the Dominican College Tip-Off Classic.  DC will take on Molloy College Friday evening at 7:30pm and will face St. Thomas Aquinas College Saturday night at 7:30 pm.  All games will be played on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center.
