MEN'S BASKETBALL LOSES IN FINAL SECONDS TO CHESTNUT HILL COLLEGE

Orangeburg, NY (2/12/11)  A Chestnut Hill layup with 0:06 seconds left in regulation lifted the visiting Griffins to a 63-62 victory over host, Dominican College, in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) men's basketball game held on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center.  Today was also the 24th Annual Bobby Mulligan Memorial game.

Neither team led by more than three points through most of the first half when the Chargers were able to pull ahead 31-27 with 4:44 to go and 34-30 with 4:09 on the clock.  A 4-0 spurt by the Griffins tied the score for the sixth time in the half at 34-all and as the first half ended the score remained tied at 38-38.

DC opened up the secon dhalf with four straight points to take a 42-38 advantage but a 10-2 CHC run saw them go up 48-44.  The Chargers responded outscoring the Griffins 9-1 over the next five minutes to grab a 53-49 lead with 9:44 left in regulation.  With the score tied at 60-60 (the 13th tied score of the game) and 1:17 on the clock, a layup from sophomore Cory Quimby (Otisville, NY) put DC ahead 62-60, but a Griffin free throw and the layup with six seconds on the clock saw the Griffins come away with the 63-62 victory.

Senior Almin Hodzic (Budd Lake, NJ) led the Chargers with his 10th double-double of the season with 15 points and a game leading 13 rebounds to go with five blocks.  Guard Khaleev Ginyard (Brentwood, NY) finished with 12 points, while Quimby netted 12 points and seven rebounds off the bench.  Sophomore Leon Porter (Laurel, MD) tallied nine points, eight rebounds and a team leading five assists.

Following the loss Dominican falls to 14-11 overall and 10-5 in the CACC.

During halftime of the game, Dominican College honored the memory of Bobby Mulligan and presented the 2011 Bobby Mullgian Memorial Scholarship to junior Michael Calzonetti (Gloucester, NJ).
