A basket from junior Michael Calzonetti (Gloucester, NJ) gave the Chargers a 13-7 lead with 13 minutes remaining before halftime. Two free throws by the Tigers cut the lead to two points, but a 10 straight Charger points regained a 28-18 lead with 5:48 on the clock.
A three pointer from rookie guard Khaleev Ginyard (Brentwood, NY) and two free throws from senior center Almin Hodzic (Budd Lake, NJ) made the score 35-21 and the Chargers went into the intermission with a 39-30 lead.
In the second half, Dominican held a 44-36 advantage when an 8-0 run by the Tigers gave them a 45-44 with 15:36 on the clock. Dominican went on a 19-8 run over the next eight minutes to re-take a double-digit lead by the score 63-53. The Chargers increased their lead to as much as 17 points with less than a minute to play by (74-57) on their way to victory.
Hodzic led three Chargers with double-doubles in the game as he scored 21 points, 12 rebounds and four blocks. Ginyard finished with 17 points, shooting 50% (4-8) from the three point arc, while Calzonetti scored a double-double of 14 points and 12 caroms. Sophomore guard Leon Porter (Laurel, MD) netted 13 points and had a game leading 12 assists in the victory.
Dominican is back in action on Tuesday evening as they host Felician College in a CACC game to be played on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center at 8pm.
