MEN'S BASKETBALL WINS 5TH ANNUAL JAMES CLANCY MEMORIAL TOURNAMENT
Orangeburg, NY (1/3/11) The Dominican College men's basketball team won the 5th Annual James Clancy Memorial Tournament and their sixth consecutive game after besting the visiting Knights of Queens College, 54-48, this evening on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center. In the consolation game, Caldwell College defeated Concordia College, 83-69.

DC held a 9-3 lead with 13:06 left in the first half when the Knights scored seven straight points to cut the lead to 9-8. Baskets from Nick Smith (Middletown, NY) and Michael Calzonetti (Gloucester, NJ) rebuilt a five point advantage (13-8), but QC answered back with a 6-0 run to take their first lead of the game at 14-13 with 6:27 left in the first half.
Tied 18-all with 34 ticks left before the intermission senior center Almin Hodzic (Budd Lake, NJ) went 1-2 from the charity stripe to lead Dominican into the break with an 19-18 lead.
Hodzic scored the first six points of the second half for DC, but the Knights managed to gain a 30-25 lead with 14:41 on the clock. The Chargers charged back with an 16-0 run, capped off by two free throws from Calzonetti to have their biggest lead of the game, 41-30.
DC led 49-39 with just under three minutes to play when the Knights scored nine consecutive points to cut the deficit to one point (49-48) with 0:41 left in regulation. Two more key free throws from Calzonetti gave Dominican a 51-48 cushion and Hodzic closed out the game by going 3-4 from the foul line for the final 54-48 Charger victory.
Hodzic led all scorers with the game's only double-double of 20 points and 11 rebounds. Freshman Johnathan Brown (Central Islip, NY) added eight points, while Calzonetti and guard Leon Porter (Laurel, MD) each netted six points each.
Senior Anderson Labase (Brooklyn, NY) paced the Knights with 14 points and tallied eight rebounds.
With the victory Dominican improves to 6-7 overall, while Queens falls to 7-2.
Dominican returns to action on Thursday when they travel to Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) North Division foe, Bloomfield College, for an 8pm game.
