MEN'S BASKETBALL SNAPS LOSING STREAK WITH VICTORY OVER USP

Philadelphia, PA (1/30/10)  The Dominican College men's basketball team snapped a four-game losing streak after defeating host, the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia, 49-46 this afternoon in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action at the Morgan Arena.

Dominican built up a four point lead (16-12) with 9:48 left in the first half as senior forward Brendan McManus (Pearl River, NY) hit a three point basket to complete a 4-0 run.  USP answered back with a 6-0 run to take an 18-16 lead, but the Chargers were able to close out the half with a 7-3 spurt to go into the intermission with a 23-21 advantage.

USP rallied to start the second half with a 14-8 run to re-gain a 35-31 edgel but junior center Almin Hodzic (Budd Lake, NJ) led DC with seven points as the team went on a 12-1 run to build up a 43-36 lead.  Trailing 46-45 with just over a minute remaining, Hodzic hit a jumper in the paint to put the Chargers up by one and freshman guard Leon Porter (Laurel, MD) sealed the Dominican victory with two free throws for the 49-46 final score.

Hodzic led all scorers with 16 points and grabbed a team leading six rebounds.  Freshman Preston Smith (Mays Landing, NJ) added nine points (3-6 from the three point line), while Porter finished with seven points.

With the victory Dominican improves to 9-12 overall and 5-5 in the CACC, while USP falls to 5-12 overall and 3-5 in the CACC.

DC is back in action on Tuesday when they travel to Caldwell College in CACC North Division action.  Tip-off is set for 8pm.
