Orangeburg, NY (1/9/10) The Dominican College men's basketball team downed the visiting Tigers of Holy Family University, 87-62 this afternoon in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center.

Dominican opened up the game with an early 12-5 lead with 16:34 to go in the first half and extended their lead to 22-10 on a trey by freshman Leon Porter (Laurel, MD) with 13:39 to go. A lay up by senior Zach Huston (Binghamton, NY) put DC up 42-21 with just under seven minutes remaining as they went into the intermission with a 49-32 lead.
DC continued to dominate in the second half as they built up a 74-45 lead with 11:07 to go in the contest and increased their lead to 85-49 with 7:41 to go before going on to the 87-62 victory.
The Tigers were led by sophomore Justin Swidoski (Cinnaminson, NJ) with 24 points and seven rebounds. Taylor Papion (Lafayette, LA) came off the bench to net nine points, while Sam Mushman (Tabernacle, NJ) added eight points and six rebounds in the loss.
Freshman guard Porter led the Chargers with 24 points (10-13 from the floor, 3-5 from three) and a game leading nine assists in the victory. Huston added 14 points and five caroms, while freshman Gerald Hill (Gwynn Oak, MD) tallied 11 points. Senior Brendan McManus (Pearl River, NY) scored 10 points, while Almin Hodzic (Budd Lake, NJ) recorded eight points and a team leading six rebounds.
With the victory Dominican improves to 8-8 overall and 4-1 in the CACC, while Holy Family University falls to 0-13 overall and 0-5 in the CACC.
The Chargers are back in action on Tuesday, January 19th when they travel to CACC rival, Nyack College for an 8pm game at Bowman Gymnasium.
