BLOOMFIELD COLLEGE TURNS BACK CHARGERS BASKETBALL

Orangeburg, NY (1/7/10)  The Bloomfield College Deacons defeated host Dominican College, 73-61 this evening in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) men's basketball action on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center.

Dominican opened up the game with five straight points to take a 5-0 lead and led 14-6 with 15:04 remaining in the first half.  The Deacons went on a 10-0 tear to turn a 16-19 deficit into a 26-19 lead and took a 24-28 lead into the break.

Bloomfield extended their lead into double-digits with 9:39 to go in the contest as junior Ryan Rodrigues (New Bedford, MA) scored a lay up for a 55-45 lead.  The Deacons would lead by as many as 18 pionts (69-51) but the Chargers outscored Bloomfield 10-4 over the next 4:07 left in the game to cut the Deacon victory to 73-61.

Junior center Almin Hodzic (Budd Lake, NJ) and senior Marquis Reddick (Trumbell, CT) led the Chargers with 11 points in the loss, with Hodzic grabbing a team leading eight rebounds.  Sophomore Mike Calzonetti (Gloucester, NJ) came off the bench to net 10 points and seven rebounds.

Bloomfield was led by junior Gage Day (Newark, NJ) who led all scorers with 26 points, eight assists and a team leading seven rebounds.  Rodrigues tallied 15 points off the bench in the victory, while Wilson Pilarte (New Bedford, MA) recorded 10 pionts and five rebounds.

With the victory Bloomfield improves to 9-3 overall and 3-0 in the CACC, while Dominican falls to 7-8 overall and 3-1 in the CACC.

Dominican is back in action on Saturday when they host Holy Family University in CACC action from Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center.  Game time is slated for 3pm.
