2008-2009 Dominican College Men's Basketball Summary

 

The Dominican College men's basketball team finished their season with an overall record of 10-17 and a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) record of 5-11.

 

The Chargers finished the regular season in sixth place in the CACC North Division and failed to make the conference playoffs for the first time in five years. 

 

Leading the team this year in scoring was senior captain Will Carty with 12.8 points per game.  He also led the team with a 78.2% free throw percentage in all 27 games played.  He netted his 1,000th career point on 1/24/09 in a loss to Post University.  He finishes his career with 1,109 points and ranked 16th in the CACC in scoring, 4th in free throw percentage and 12th in three point field goal percentage (36.1%).

 

Fellow senior captain Brandon Brock finished second on the team with 12.5 points per game and tied for second with 3.7 rebounds per game.  He led the Chargers with 70 assists on the season in all 27 games played.  He finished 17th in the CACC in scoring and 11th in field goal percentage (45.5%). He finishes his career with 665 points in two seasons.  He received All-CACC Honorable Mention honors this year.

 

Senior Damien Davis led the team and was tied for fourth place in the CACC with 48 steals in 25 games this season, while averaging 4.9 points per game and shooting 41.3% from the floor.

 

The Chargers squad lose six players to graduation this season (Carty, Brock, Davis, Dato Sakvarelidze, Abdul Sulamian and center Henry Elegar).  Next season Head Coach Joe Clinton will rely on seniors Brendan McManus, Marquis Reddick and Zach Huston, along with a young sophomore class and recruiting class to improve upon this season's record and return to the CACC Tournament next season
