MEN'S BASKETBALL FALLS TO PHILADELPHIA UNIVERSITY RAMS
Philadelphia, PA (2/14/09) The Philadelphia University men's basketball team defeated the visiting Dominican College Chargers, 64-50 this evening in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action from Herb Magee Court.
The Rams outshot the Chargers 40% to 31% for the game and out rebounded DC 42-35.
PhilaU jumped out to a 20-6 lead at 8:48 remaining in the first half, capped by a three-ball from junior guard Russell Frederick (Baltimore, MD). Malcolm Ingram's (Philadelphia, PA) lay-up with one minute in the first stanza gave PhilaU a 36-18 lead, their largest of the half going into the intermission.
DC held the Rams to just one point for a five minute span in the second half, pulling within 12 (49-37) at 6:38, but PhilaU junior forward Mike Yocum (Dresher, PA) put up an offensive rebound for a bucket on the next play to give his squad breathing room.
Senior guard Brandon Brock (Newburgh, NY) led the Chargers with 10 points off the bench in the loss. Sophomore Tim Matchett (Pitman, NJ) also came off the bench to grab a team leading 10 caroms and nine points, while senior Will Carty (Bronx, NY) contributed nine points.
Ingram (Philadelphia, PA) led all scorers with 22 points and 13 rebounds, while Frederick (Baltimore, MD) had 21 points and nine boards on the night. Yocum finished with 13 points, 13 rebounds and three blocks.
With the win PhilaU improves to 19-5 overall and 11-2 in the CACC, while Dominican falls to 9-15 overall and 4-9 in the CACC.
Dominican is back in action on Thursday when they travel to Post University in CACC men's action. Tip-off is slated for 8pm in Waterbury, CT.
