Dominican UPENDS UNIVERSITY OF PUERTO RICO-RIO PIEDRAS, 73-67             

Blauvelt, NY (11/20/07)          The Dominican College Chargers upended the visiting University of Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras Gallitos, 73-67 this evening on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center. 

The Chargers went on a 9-2 run to start the game and built a 12 point, 16-4 lead with 15:12 remaining as Dato Sakvarelidze (Tbilisi, GA) scored a layup basket.  The Gallitos went up 36-35 with 1:05 on a jump shot by Pedro Gonzalez (San Juan, PR), but the Charger Jonathan Guzman (Rutherford, NJ) netted a bucket with 0:58 left in the half to give DC a 37-36 lead.

In the second half, the Gallitos took a four points lead with 17:12 to go as Abraham Colon (Bayamon, PR) scored a layup to lead, 46-42.  The Chargers went up for good with 10:49 left in the game as freshman Tim Matchett (Pitman, NJ) scored two from the charity stripe for a 58-50 lead en route to the 73-67 victory. 

The Gallitos had three players in double figures led by Juan C. Reyes (Dorado, PR) and Ian Toste (San Juan, PR) who had 13 points a piece, while Reyes added seven rebounds.  Colon finished 11 points and five rebounds.

The Chargers were led by Sakvarelidze with a season high 21 points and seven rebounds.  Junior James Mosser (Stanley, VA) netted 18 points, shooting 6-10 from the three point line.  Matchett finished 12 points. 

With the win Dominican improves to 3-0 on the season, while the Gallitos fall to 0-3.

Dominican is back in action on Saturday, December 1st when they open up Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play as they host Bloomfield College at the Hennessy Center.  Game time is 3pm.
