Dominican Chargers Defeat Caldwell Cougars, 63-59

Dominican Chargers Defeat Caldwell Cougars, 63-59

Blauvelt, NY (12/7/06) The Dominican College men's basketball team defeated the Caldwell College Cougars, 63-59 this evening in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) men's action on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center.

Dominican never trailed in the game and took a 29-21 lead into halftime. The Chargers led by as many as 14 points in the second half, before Caldwell fought back to pull within seven with under a minute to go but pull out the victory.

The Chargers shot 48.9% from the floor to Caldwell's 40.4%. Both teams struggled from the free throw line as the Cougars shot 62.5% (15-24), while the Chargers shot 50% (15-30) for the game.

DC was led by senior Prince Jackson (Schenectady, NY) with 18 points and 2-4 performance from beyond the three point arc. Sophomore Will Carty (Bronx, NY) netted 16 points and two steals, while center Ron Wyatt (Washingtonville, NY) had the game's only double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Shelton Gibbs (Jersey City, NJ) contributed seven points, six rebounds and three assists, respectively.

For the Cougars, senior Jean Georges (Vauxhaul, NJ) led the team with 19 points and two steals. CACC Player of the Week, B.J. Suchy (Ronkonkoma, NY) added 11 points and seven rebounds, while Sam Cricelli (Brighton, England) netted eight points and eight rebounds in the loss.

With the win, the Chargers improve to 3-3 overall and 3-1 in the CACC, while Caldwell falls to 5-2 overall and 2-1 in the CACC.

The Chargers are back in action on Saturday when they travel to Wilmington College in CACC action. Game time is 3pm in Delaware.
