The Dominican College men’s
basketball team turned back visiting Philadelphia University, 51-36
this afternoon in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC)
men’s action on Senior Day at Coach Baxter Court.
The Chargers
jumped out to a 17-6 lead early in the first half, but the Rams cut
the lead to 21-19 late in the first half on a jump shot by
Christian Burns (Hamilton, NJ).
Sophomore Damien Davis (Windsor, CT) responded
with a lay up and converted the free throw to give the Chargers a
24-19 lead at the break.
Dominican never trailed in the game and lead by as many as 18
points in the second half. Both teams struggled
on the floor as Dominican shot 35.7% for the game to
Philadelphia’s 23.8%. The Chargers had the
edge from the charity stripe, shooting 71.4%, while the Rams shot
51.9%.
The Rams had two players in double figures, led by junior
Jason Hickenbottom (Philadelphia, PA) with 16
points and seven rebounds.
Burns finished with 12 points and seven rebounds
in the loss.
The Chargers also had two players in double figures, led by
sophomore Will Carty (Bronx, NY) with 19 points
and three steals. Senior Prince Jackson
(Schenectady, NY) had a solid game with 18 points (8-16)
and seven rebounds. Junior Ron Wyatt
(Washingtonville, NY) had a game leading 11 rebounds in
the win.
With the win, the Chargers improve to 13-14 overall and 10-10 in
the CACC, while the Rams fall to 19-8 overall and 14-6 in the
CACC.
This was the final regular season game for both teams as both will
advance to the CACC Tournament, slated to begin with first round
games this coming Tuesday.
