Philadelphia Defeats Dominican, 65-57

Blauvelt, NY (12/10/05)The Philadelphia University men's basketball team defeated the Dominican College Chargers, 65-57 this afternoon in CACC college hoops at the Hennessy Center.

The Rams had three players in double figures, highlighted by Tayron Thomas (Bristol, PA) who had 23 points and eight rebounds. Junior Christian Burns (Hamilton, NJ) scored 15 points and grabbed seven rebounds, while Levi Winters (Manchester, PA) added 12 points in the win.

The Chargers also had three players in double figures, led by senior Tahiem Stewart (Harlem, NY) with 16 points and eight rebounds. Shooters Paul Tuomey (Queens, NY) and Prince Jackson, (Schnectady, NY) each had 11 points in the loss. Senior Charles Matthews (Brooklyn, NY) contributed seven points, respectively.

DC trailed by as many as twelve, but rallied in the second half to tie the game at 53-53 on a jumper by Jackson. Philadelphia went up for good on a huge three point basket by Winters with three minutes to go.

Philadelphia had the edge on the floor, shooting 47.6% to Dominican's 46%. The Rams shot an outstanding 95%, (19-20) from the free throw line, while the Chargers shot 66.7%, (8-12).

With the win, the Rams improve to 8-3 and 5-0 in the CACC, while the Chargers fall to 2-5 and

2-3 in the CACC.

Dominican will be back in action on December 30 when they host Molloy College in a non-conference game at 7pm.
