Dominican College Chargers Turn Back NJIT, 74-71
Blauvelt, NY (2/7/06)The Dominican College men's basketball team defeated the New Jersey Institute of Technology Highlanders, 74-71 this evening in men's CACC basketball action at the Hennessy Center.
In a physical game where three technical fouls were called in the first half, Dominican jumped out to an 16-point lead with just over two minutes remaining in the half. NJIT would end the half on a 8-0 run to make the score 37-29. Both teams shot relatively well in the half with DC shooting 50% from the floor to NJIT's 40%.
NJIT tied the game with 1:35 remaining as Clayton Barker (Passaic, NJ) hit a lay up to notch the game at 67-67. DC bounced back with the go ahead lay up by freshman Will Carty (Bronx, NY), putting the Chargers up 69-67 en route to the 74-71 win.
The Chargers had two players in double figures, led by junior Prince Jackson (Schenectady, NY) with a game leading 29 points (11-12 from the charity stripe). Senior Tahiem Stewart (Harlem, NY) netted 19 points and grabbed a team leading five rebounds in the win. Chaz Holloway (Caldwell, NJ) chipped in six points and freshman Damien Davis (Windsor, CT) had five assists, respectively.
The Highlanders had four players reach double figures, led by Barker with 24 points. Marc Milbourne Swan (Monmouth Junction, NJ) recorded the game's only double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Courcy Magnus (Plymouth Meeting, PA) and Kraig Peters (Mt. Laurel, NJ) added 10 points reach in the loss.
With the win, the Chargers improve to 8-14 overall and 7-10 in the CACC, while the Highlanders fall to 7-16 overall and 4-14 in the CACC.
Dominican will be back in action on Thursday, February 9th when they travel to Bloomfield College in CACC men's basketball action. Game time is 8pm.
