Dominican Chargers Rally To Defeat NJIT, 72-62

Newark, NJ (1/21/06) The Dominican College men's basketball team rallied to defeat the New Jersey Institute of Technology men's basketball team. 72-62 this afternoon in CACC men's basketball action.

The Highlanders jumped out to an overwhelming 25-9 lead early in the game and led at the half 32-21. However, the Chargers regrouped in the second half as freshman Zerimar Ramirez (Barrington, RI) hit a layup to give DC their first lead of the game at 39-38. The lead would change three more times, but the Chargers went up for good as freshman guard Richard Fegins (Elizabeth, NJ) connected on a three point basket, putting the team up 59-57 en route to the 72-62 victory.

The Chargers had two players in double figures, led by senior Tahiem Stewart (Harlem, NY) with 18 points and eight rebounds. Prince Jackson (Schenectady, NY) netted 17 points off the bench, while senior Charles Matthews (Brooklyn, NY) added eight points, four rebounds and two blocks. Fegins finished with eight points and Ramirez had five points and six rebounds, respectively.

The Highlanders had four players in double figures, led by Clayton Barker with 15 points. Kraig Peters and Courcy Magnus had 12 points a piece, while Marc Milbourne Swan added 11 points and six rebounds. Kyle Edwards had a game leading nine rebounds in the loss.

With the win the Chargers snap a five game losing streak, improving to 4-11 overall and 3-7 in the CACC, while the Highlanders fall to 6-10 overall and 3-8 in the CACC.

Dominican is back in action on Tuesday, January 24th when they host Post University in a CACC match up. Game time is 8pm at the Hennessy Center.
