Holy Family Turns Back Dominican in Overtime, 81-76

Phildelphia, Pa. (1/10/06) Holy Family made nine of ten foul shots in the overtime period, which proved to the difference as the Tigers (9-4, 5-1 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference) defeated Dominican (NY) (3-8, 2-4 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference) 81-76 Tuesday night.
The win snapped a three-game losing streak, and it was the Tigers' first home game after opening with 12 straight road games. Ryan Haigh (Sr./Philadelphia, PA/Father Judge) had 29 points and five steals to lead Holy Family, who shot 55.3 percent (26-of-47) from the field in the contest. Both teams shot over 40 percent in the game.
In the overtime period, Holy Family took an early 74-72 lead on two foul shots by Hazin Harris (Sr./Deptford, NJ/Gateway Regional) with 4:45 left. James Gray (Cortland Manor, NY) made one-of-two foul shots with 3:49 left to pull the Chargers within one.
Charles Matthews (Brooklyn, NY) made one-of-two foul shots for Dominican to tie the score back up at 74-74 with 2:47 left. The lone field goal in the extra frame came when Tahiem Stewart (Harlem, NY) hit a layup with 2:19 left for a Dominican 76-75 lead with 2:19 left. Stewart finished with a team-high 21 points.
Holy Family took the lead for good with 2:16 on a pair of foul shots by Harris. Haigh hit two foul shots with 19 seconds left to put the Tigers up three at 79-76. Gray's three-pointer with just two seconds left went wide for Dominican and the Chargers were forced to foul. Harris hit two more foul shots to tally the final points for Holy Family.
The game featured 18 lead changes, with Holy Family holding a slim 41-40 lead at the half. Dan Welch (Sr./Philadelphia, PA/Father Judge)forced the overtime period with two foul shots with seven seconds left.
For Holy Family, Ryan Lancaster (So./Egg Harbor, NJ/Egg Harbor) had 12 points, while Harris and Welch each had ten. Haigh and Welch each had a team-high eight rebounds.
Dominican, who had over 40 points in the paint, got 14 points off the bench from Prince Jackson (Schenectady, NY). Dominican owned a slim razor-thin 30-29 margin on the glass.
