Caldwell Goes Undefeated at DC New Year's Tournament
Dominican, NYIT win on Second Day
Blauvelt, NY (1/5/06)Caldwell College won both games, while host Dominican College and New York Institute of Technology both won their second games to wrap up the 1st Annual DC New Year's Tournament.
Game 1 saw the Caldwell College Cougars jump out to an early 11-2 lead over the New York Institute of Technology Bears and never look back en route to a 47-25 lead at the half. Senior Mark Kelly (Oakhurst, NJ) went 4-5 from the three point arc, scoring 15 points in the first twenty minutes.
The high scorer for the Cougars was Jean George (Vauxhal, NJ) who netted 20 points and had three steals, shooting 6-8 from the floor. Kelly finished with 18 points and eight rebounds. Forward B.J. Suchy
(Ronkonkoma, NY) contributed nine points and 10 rebounds. With the win the Cougars improve to 6-8 on the year.
Despite poor shooting from NYIT, 36.5% from the floor, three players reached double digits. Senior Edwin Ebanks (Bellerose, NY) led all scorers with 19 points, while Daniel Cox (Brooklyn, NY) and Bryant Lassiter (Bayshore, NY) each added 11 points. The Bears dropped to 2-9 with the loss.
Dominican bounced back from a tough loss last night to NYIT to dominate Mercy, leading at halftime, 43-22. Junior Bryan Browne (Mt. Vernon, NY) came off the bench red hot as he netted 10 points, going 3-5 from behind the arc.
The Chargers had three players in double figures. James Gray (Cortland Manor, NY), Charles Matthews (Brooklyn, NY) and Browne all had 12 points in the win with Gray adding seven assists.. CACC Player of the Week, Tahiem Stewart (Harlem, NY) scored eight points and a team leading six rebounds in the win. Freshmen Zerimar Ramirez (Barrington, RI) and Richard Fegins (Elizabeth, NJ) each chipped in eight points.
The Flyers were led by junior Dominick Cuzzi (Bronx, NY) with a game leading 23 points and six rebounds. Freshman Manny Garcia (Bronx, NY) netted 13 points and five rebounds, while Devon Mirjah
(Bronx, NY) contributed 10 points and six rebounds. Victor Sidberry (Bronx, NY) had six assists.
Dominican will be back in action on Tuesday, January 10th as they travel to Holy Family University in CACC hoops action. Game time is slated for 8pm in Philadelphia.
