2011-2012 Dominican College Men’s Golf Season Summary

              

The team opened the season with three returning players, senior Bryan Romagnoli, junior Jeffrey Sabella and sophomore Keith Prokop.  They were joined by Rockland Community College transfer, Carlos Fonacier and freshmen, Eric Reiher, Anthony Schifano and Michael Morton.

 

During the Fall season the team encountered the usual ups and downs as the new players adjusted to collegiate competition. The team came on strong in the Spring season with four top-5 finishes including a win at the Philadelphia University tournament. The team a respectable 7th place finish at the CACC Conference Championship and posted their best two day scoring rounds at the Goldey- Beacom Tournament to finish in 4th place.

 

Prokop led the team in scoring average and posted the season low round of 72 while finishing in 1st place at the Chestnut Hill College tournament. Prokop had a total of four top-10 finishes and was named the team MVP for the second consecutive year.

 

Reiher posted four top 10 finishes including a 1st place finish at the Philadelphia University tournament. He tied teammate Prokop for the season low round with a 72. Reiher received Honorable Mention CACC Rookie of the Week Honors for his play at the Philadelphia University tournament. Reiher received the Coach’s Award for his efforts.

 

Schifano received CACC Rookie of the Week Honors for his play at the Dowling College tournament in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.  Schifano and Morton were inducted into the National Honor Society for their academic achievements.

 

Captain Romagnoli graduated after completing four outstanding years as a golf team player. Romagnoli elevated the performance bar not only as a player but as a team captain. He also extended a golf team streak by becoming the 4th consecutive Team Captain to enter the ranks of professional golf. He is preceded by Brian Mackey ’08, A.J. Lee ’09 and Brian Kivlehan ’10.

 

Brian McGuigan an outstanding player from Hawthorne High School will be joining the team next season. The team and coaching staff are looking forward to an exciting and challenging 2012-2013 season.
