New Haven, CT (4/7/11) Post University will be looking for its sixth consecutive Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Golf Championship as the 2011 Tournament gets underway on Monday, April 11. The two-day, 36-hole tournament will be hosted by Chestnut Hill College at Whitemarsh Valley Country Club in Lafayette Hill, Pa.
Post has won five consecutive conference crowns and senior David McGregor is the three-time defending individual champion. McGregor, who hails from Helensburgh, Scotland, won a playoff against teammate Lee Wanklyn last season to claim the individual title, finishing with rounds of 76 and 71 for a total of 147. McGregor carded a 137 two years ago (69, 68) to win the 2009 tournament, and took home the title as a freshman with a 142 (75, 67). He won the tournament by nine strokes as a freshman.
Post won last season's tournament at Lyman Orchards Golf Club in Middlefield, Conn., by two strokes over Wilmington University. The Eagles finished with a two-day total of 615 (310, 305), while Wilmington improved by 11 strokes on day two (314, 303) to make things interesting and ended with a combined 617.
In addition to McGregor, sophomore Thomas Rees is back for Post after finishing eighth at last season's tournament, while sophomore Marchant de Villier tied for 20th. Three-time CACC Rookie of the Week Ross Earnshaw will help Post's cause.
Wilmington returns three players who finished in the top 10 at the 2010 Tournament in the trio of sophomores Daniel Ott (third), Paul Tighe (fourth) and John Perrine (T-fifth). Reigning CACC Rookie of the Week, Andrew Baldo, will also look to place well for the Wildcats.
Goldey-Beacom College finished third last year with a score of 635 (321, 314), and sophomore Devon Ripley returns to lead the Lightning after finishing in a tie for fifth last season with a total of 155 (76, 79). Nyack College place fourth with rounds of 332 and 312 (644) and Holy Family University rounded out the top five with a 661 (339, 322).
Play at the 2011 Tournament gets underway Monday and Tuesday at 8:00 am at Whitemarsh Valley CC.
