DOMINICAN'S MACKEY MAKES PROFESSIONAL GOLF DEBUT

Orangeburg, NY (9/8/09)Dominican College Assistant Golf Coach Brian Mackey made his professional golf debut last week at the 94th Metropolitan Golf Association MET/Open held at the Ridgewood Country Club in Paramus, New Jersey.

Following a stellar amateur career at both St. Joseph Regional High School and Dominican College, Mackey made the decision to relinquish his amateur status and pursue golf as a profession. At Ridgewood, Mackey competed in a field of 132 golfers the first two rounds. After completion of the second round, the field was cut to the top 60 players.

Mackey finished play tied for 28th place to secure a spot in the championship round and finished tied for 29th for the tournament overall. For his efforts, Mackey collected his first check as a professional.

Mackey will travel to Florida to compete in several golf mini tour events over the next two weeks.

A 2008 graduate of Dominican College, Mackey competed in the NCAA Golf Championships in 2008 and finished in 32nd place.
