CHARGERS BASEBALL BEATS BLOOMFIELD COLLEGE
Newark, NJ (4/16/11) The Dominican College baseball team defeated host, Bloomfield College, 5-2, this afternoon in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game held at West Side Park. The second game of what was going to be a CACC double-header was postponed due to inclement weather.
Newark, NJ (4/16/11) The Dominican College baseball team defeated host, Bloomfield College, 5-2, this afternoon in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game held at West Side Park. The second game of what was going to be a CACC double-header was postponed due to inclement weather.
The game was scoreless until the top half of the fourth inning when the Chargers struck for a run as Tony Blake (Windsor, CT) led off the inning with a double and moved to third on a groundout. Catcher Robert Iglesias (Mays Landing, NJ) hit a sacrifice fly ball to right field to plate Blake and give DC a 1-0 lead.
Dominican added four more runs in the sixth inning as Marco Moreno (Miami, FL) hit a single and Xavier Bonilla (Bronx, NY) followed with a walk. Iglesias sacrificed both runners over and Michael Levy, Jr (Salisbury Mill, NY) reached on an error that allowed both runners to score. Levy later scored on a second Deacon error and Blake later followed with a bases loaded walk to score a run and by the Chargers up 5-0.
The Deacons put two runs on the board in the seventh for the final 5-2 score.
Senior Dan Robinson (Massapequa, NY) led Dominican with three hits on the day.
Justin Moore (Wantagh, NY) improved to 5-0 with the complete game victory, allowing two runs on eight his and three strikeouts.
With the victory Domincian improves to 20-10 overall and 11-1 in the CACC.
