CHARGERS BASEBALL SWEEP UNIVERSITY OF THE SCIENCES

Philadelphia, PA (3/26/11) The Dominican College baseball team improved to 8-6 overall and 2-0 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play with a double-header sweep over host, the University of the Sciences, this afternoon in games played at Ashburn Field. DC won game one, 3-1 in ten innings and took the nightcap, 6-2.

Philadelphia, PA (3/26/11)  The Dominican College baseball team improved to 8-6 overall and 2-0 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play with a double-header sweep over host, the University of the Sciences, this afternoon in games played at Ashburn Field.  DC won game one, 3-1 in ten innings and took the nightcap, 6-2.

Game One:  USCI held a 1-0 lead until the top of the eighth inning when Xavier Bonilla (Bronx, NY) drew a one out walk and moved to second on a failed pick off attempt.  With two outs, Marco Moreno (Miami, FL) singled in Bonilla and tied the score at 1-1.

In the top of the tenth inning, Tony Blake (Windsor, CT) led off the inning with a single and Robert Iglesias (Mays Landing, NJ) followed with an RBI triple.  Bonilla singled home Iglesias for the eventual 3-1 victory.

Junior right-handed pitcher Dave Bartuska (Duryea, PA) picked up the win (1-2) in two innings of work, allowing just one hit and two strikeouts.  Starter Justin Moore (Wantagh, NY) went eight innings, allowing one run on eight hits in the no decision.

Iglesias and Michael Levy, Jr (Salisbury Mill, NY) each collected two hits in the victory.

Game Two:  Dominican took a 1-0 lead in the first as senior Mario Lopez (Anthony, NM) hit a one out double and sophomore Andrew Camardella (Pelham, NY) hit an RBI single to plate Lopez.

DC added to the lead with a five-run top of the fifth inning, as Tyler Sadawske (Waukesha, WI) led off with a double and Dru Kayfus (Boynton Beach, FL) hit an RBI single.  A passed ball allowed Kayfus to advance to second and Iglesias brought him home with an RBI single.  Back-to-back walks to Levy and Lopez loaded the bases for senior Dan Robinson (Massapequa, NY) who hit an RBI single.  Levy later scored on a passed ball and Moreno reached on a fielder's choice which allowed Robinson to score and give Dominican a 6-0 lead.

The Devils put runs on the board in the seventh and eighth innings for the final 6-2 score.

Dustin Javins (Fort Lauderdale, FL) got the win (2-1) after going seven innings and scattering just three hits and five strikeouts.  Luis Vasquez (Pomona, NY) and Jordan Paszek (Sussex, WI) each pitched one inning.

Sadawske and Kayfus each got two hits in the win.
