CHARGERS BASEBALL TURN BACK COLLEGE OF ST. ROSE
Fort Lauderdale, FL (3/11/09) The Dominican College baseball squad won their first game of the 2009 season after defeating the College of St. Rose, 7-5 this afternoon at the Santaluces Sportsplex.
Fort Lauderdale, FL (3/11/09) The Dominican College baseball squad won their first game of the 2009 season after defeating the College of St. Rose, 7-5 this afternoon at the Santaluces Sportsplex.
The Chargers pushed across six runs in the fourth and another in the fifth to go up 7-0. Saint Rose managed to get one back in the seventh and four more in the ninth.
Sophomore Robert Iglesias (Mays Landing, NJ) went 3-4 with an RBI and a run scored, while sophomore Danny Porras (Miami, FL) was 2-4 with a double, two RBIs and two stolen bases (including stealing home). Jason Berrios (Brooklyn, NY) was 2-5 with a double, two RBIs and a stolen base in the victory.
Sophomore pitcher Tom Kahl (Bay Shore, NY) picked up the win after allowing only one run on six hits with one walk, while striking out four batters in seven innings of work. Freshman Justin Moore (Wantagh, NY) picked up his first collegiate save.
With the victory Dominican improves to 1-1 overall, while the College of St. Rose falls to 2-9 overall.
Dominican is back in action at the Santaluces Complex tomorrow when they take on Dowling College at 12:30 pm.
