DOMINICAN'S MEJIA SIGNED BY THE CHICAGO CUBS
Orangeburg, NY (6/11/08) Dominican College baseball
player, Tommy Mejia, has signed as a free agent
with the Chicago Cubs as was announced this past Saturday.
Mejia, a right handed pitcher from Brooklyn, NY,
finished this season with a 4-3 record. He led the team with
71.0 innings pitched and was third with a 3.04 ERA. He
finished third in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC)
in opposing batting average (.201) and strike outs (75).
His career at Dominican spanned the 2005 through 2008 seasons. He compiled a 14-13 record and four saves in 48 total appearances. He threw seven complete games out of 30 games started for a total of 220.2 innings pitched at DC. He recorded 179 total strikeouts and finished his career with a .252 opponent batting average and a 4.36 ERA.
"It's very exciting to see Tommy getting a shot at pro ball" said
Head Coach Rick Giannetti. "He worked very
hard during his four years at Dominican, and it's great to see
he'll be able to continue his career."
Mejia will report to the Mesa Cubs, the rookie team in the Chicago Cubs Minor League Organization, which plays in the Arizona League.
Mejia becomes the 26th player from
the Dominican College baseball program to sign a professional
contract.
