CHARGERS BASEBALL SPLIT ON DAY ONE OF CACC TOURNAMENT

College baseball team lost the first game of the Central Atlantic
Collegiate Conference to the #2 Caldwell College Cougars, 6-4 in 10
innings, but rebound to win the elimination game against #4
Felician College, 7-1.
Game One: The Chargers took a 2-0 lead in the top of the fourth as designated hitter Marc Mortellaro (Middletown, NY) got a two out single to right center and shortstop Mario Lopez (Anthony, NM) followed with a walk. Freshman second basemen Jonathan Ryan (Troy, NY) followed with a two run triple to center field.
The Cougars cut the lead to 2-1 in the bottom stanza on a RBI ground out. Caldwell took a 4-2 lead in the sixth on a two run double and a sacrifice fly. CC added to the lead in the seventh on a RBI single to take a 5-2 lead.
DC fought back to tie the game in the ninth as Mortellaro led off the inning with a walk and Lopez followed with a single up the middle. Ryan singled through the left side to load the bases and all runners advanced on a wild pitch for a run. Lopez came into score on a passed ball and Ryan later scored on a two out wild pitch to make the score 5-5.
In the bottom of the tenth inning, the Cougar batter hit a solo home run to win the game 6-5 and advance to the winner's bracket.
Jack Crawford (Montgomery, NY) suffered the loss, in 2 2/3 innings allowing one run on one hit and six strikeouts.
The Chargers will face the loser of the #1 Philadelphia University/#4 Felician College game later this afternoon in the loser's bracket.
Game Two: In the second game, the Chargers jumped out to a 2-0 lead after two innings against #4 Golden Falcons of Felician College. Senior Sean Brown (Massapequa, NY) had an RBI single to right field to score Jason Berrios (Brooklyn, NY), who had singled up the middle to lead off the inning and take a 1-0 lead.
After a double to right center by desingated hitter Michael Munoz (Bronx, NY), he scored on the one out single through the right side by Ryan. DC added two runs in the third on the infield RBI single by Mortellaro to plate Brown and an RBI single through the right side by Lopez to score Mortelllaro as Dominican took a 4-0 lead.
Felican got on the board in the sixth on an RBI single through the left side, but the Chargers answered with a run in the bottom stanza on the RBI single to right center by Tommy Maloney (Massapequa Park, NY) to take a 5-1 lead.
The Chargers added a run in the seventh on a Godlen Falcon throwing error which brought in Munoz and scored their final run in the eighth as Brown reached base on a throwing error, advanced to second on another FC error and stole third. He came in to score on a throwing error as Domincian went on to win the game 7-1.
Senior Michael Mondesir (Jamaica, NY) got the victory in another solid start, allowing just one run on two hits and nine strikeouts in eight innings. Freshman DJ Stinsman (Egg Harbor Twp, NJ) came in to pitch the ninth.
With the split Dominican improves to 27-24 overall. DC
will play the loser of the #2 Caldwell College/#1 Philadelphia
University tomorrow afternoon at 3pm.
