FOUR CHARGERS NAMED TO ALL-CACC BASEBALL TEAM
Orangeburg, NY (5/8/08) Four Dominican College baseball players were selected to the All-Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Baseball Team as was announced this morning by the conference office. The league's 10 coaches conducted the voting. Seniors Sean Brown, Tommy Mejia and Michael Mondesir were selected to the All-CACC First Team, while sophomore Tommy Maloney earned All-CACC Second Team honors.
Brown, an outfielder who hails from Massapequa,
NY, is currently leading the team in batting (.360), stolen bases
(35), hits (59), runs scored (39), doubles (14) and on-base
percentage (.481). He leads the CACC in stolen bases,ranks
second in doubles, third in on-base percentage and hits, tied
for fifth in runs scored, first in hit by pitch and third in
sacrifice fly balls.
Mejia, a right handed pitcher from Brooklyn, NY,
has a 4-3 record in 10 appearances on the season. He has a
2.92 ERA in 64.2 innings pitched, allowing 52 hits and leads the
team with 70 strikeouts. He ranks third in the CACC in
strikeouts, fifth in batters who strike out looking and second in
opposing batting average (.206).
Mondesir, another right handed pitcher from
Jamaica, NY, has a 1.12 ERA this season. He has a 5-2 record
on the season, including two consecutive shut out victories to wrap
up the regular season. He has 46 strikeouts in 48.0 innings
pitched and opponents are hitting just .185 against him.
Maloney, a first basemen out of Massapequa Park,
NY, is second on the team with a .323 batting average, 53 hits and
13 doubles. He leads the team with 43 RBIs and three home
runs and leads the CACC in RBIs. He is sporting a .982
fielding percentage to lead the Chargers and is second on the team
with 13 stolen bases.
