MURPHY EARNS FIRST COMPLETE GAME VICTORY OVER CHESTNUT HILL COLLEGE

Orangeburg, NY (4/11/08)  Freshman right-hand pitcher Corey Murphy (Melville, NY) earned his first collegiate complete game victory as the Chargers of Dominican College defeated the Griffins of Chestnut Hill College, 5-0 this afternoon in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) baseball action at Veteran's Memorial Field.

Dominican scored the first run of the game in bottom of the first as senior Sean Brown (Massapequa, NY)  led off the game with an infield single and moved to third on the single to right field by freshman Dan Robinson (Massapequa, NY).  An RBI groundout to the first basemen by Tommy Maloney (Massapequa Park, NY) brought home Brown and gave DC the 1-0 lead.

DC added to the lead in the third as freshman catcher Robert Iglesias (Mays Landing, NJ) led off the inning with a single up the middle.  With one out Robinson reached base on a Griffin error which allowed Iglesias to move all the way to third.  A double steal brought in Iglesias and Robinson came in on the RBI single by Maloney to extend the Charger lead to 3-0.

The Chargers added to the lead in the fifth as Maloney picked up his third RBI of the game with a double to center field to plate Robinson who led off the inning with a bunt single.  Maloney came in on a sacrifice to right field by designated hitter Marc Mortellaro (Middletown, NY) for a 5-0 final score.

Murphy earned his first collegiate win with a nine inning shut out, scattering five hits and striking out 10.

Griffin starter Ryan Weber (Philadelphia, PA) dropped to 3-4 on the year, allowing five runs on eight hits and four strikeouts.

With the win the Chargers improve to 15-17 overall and 7-5 in the CACC, while the Griffins fall to 5-19 overall and 3-8 in the CACC.

Dominican travels to Chestnut Hill tomorrow to wrap up the three game CACC series with a double-header slated to begin at 5pm.
