BASEBALL SWEEPS BLOOMFIELD COLLEGE

Bloomfield, NJ (4/5/08)  The Dominican College Chargers swept a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double-header from host Bloomfield College this afternoon.

Game one: Dominican scored in the opening stanza as Jonathan Ryan (Troy, NY) hit a one out single to right center and moved to third on the single to right field by senior Sean Brown (Massapequa, NY).  After Brown stole second, Ryan came in to score on a balk by the Bloomfield pitcher to give the Chargers a 1-0 lead and eventually the victory.

Senior Tommy Mejia (Brooklyn, NY) got the complete game win (1-3), allowing just two hits and three Deacon strikeouts.

Brown led the team with two hits.

Game two:  Once again, the Chargers scored early as Ryan hit a one out blast to over the center field fence to give DC a 1-0 lead.

In the top of the second Mario Lopez (Anthony, NM) hit a one out single to left field and moved to third on the single to right field by Nelson Cruz (East Elmhurst, NY)Robert Iglesias (Mays Landing, NJ) reached on a fielder's choice to plate Lopez and give DC a 2-0 lead.

The Chargers added to the lead in the fourth as Lopez led off the inning with a walk and moved to second on a bunt single by CruzDan Robinson (Massapequa, NY) drew a one out walk to load the bases and Ryan's sacrifice fly to right field plated LopezBrown singled through the left side to score Cruz and a BC fielding error allowed Robinson to score to extend the DC 5-0.

In the sixth, Robinson's infield RBI single scored Cruz who had walked to lead off the inning.  Tommy Maloney's (Massapequa Park, NY) RBI groundout scored Robinson to give DC a 7-0 lead.

The Deacons got on the board in the bottom of the sixth, but the Chargers responded with two runs in the seventh on an RBI single by Iglesias and a bases loaded walk issued to Brown as DC went on to the 9-2 victory.

Tom Kahl (Bay Shore, NY) picked up the win (2-1) in 5 1/3 innings of work, allowing two runs on eight hits and and six strikeouts.

With the wins, Dominican improves to 11-15 overall and 3-3 in the CACC.
