SPARTANS RALLY TO DEFEAT CHARGERS BASEBALL
Orangeburg, NY (3/24/08) The St. Thomas Aquinas College Spartans rallied from a 3-1 deficit to defeat the visiting Chargers of Dominican College this afternoon in a non-conference game at Veteran's Memorial Field.

The Spartans got on the board in the bottom of the third as
Pat Murray (Demarest, NJ) and Mike Triana
(New Milford, NJ) hit back to back one out singles and
advanced a base on a wild pitch. An RBI ground out by
John Mazella (Hyde Park, NY).
Dominican retaliated in the top of the fifth as freshman
Dan Robinson (Massapequa, NY) led off the inning
with a double, followed by a Sean Brown (Massapequa,
NY) single. Sophomore Tommy Maloney
(Massapequa Park, NY) followed with a double to score both
runs and moved over to third on a single by Michael Munoz
(Bronx, NY). A wild pitch allowed
Maloney to score and put the Chargers up 3-1.
STAC responded in the bottom half of the seventh inning as
Kevin Ryan (Levittown, NY) led off the inning with
a single, stole second base and moved over to third on a DC
error. After a Spartan walk to Joe Antenucci
(Emerson, NJ), both runners stole a base which plated
Ryan and cut the DC lead to 3-2. An RBI
ground out by Murray allowed
Antenucci to score and knot the game at 3-3.
With two outs, Triana doubled and
Mazella followed with an RBI double and lift the
Spartans to the final 4-3 victory.
Brown led the Chargers, going 3-4 with a run
scored, while Maloney had two RBIs.
Charger starter Anthony Luciano (Holtsville, NY)
went 6+ innings, allowing three runs on five hits. Reliever
Brendan Bohan (Rutherford, NJ) took the loss in an
inning of work allowing one run on two hits. Dominick
Ruscitti (Washingtonville, NY) came in to pitch the bottom
of the eighth.
Spartan Mark Fochesato (Middletown, NY) got the
win in three innings of relief.
The Chargers are back in action tomorrow as the open up the
Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play with a
double-header at Nyack College.
