BASEBALL SPLITS WITH SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT STATE UNIVERSITY
Boca Raton, FL (3/21/08) The Dominican College baseball team split a non-conference double-header with Southern Connecticut State University in Boca Raton, FL this afternoon. DC took the first game, 3-2 in ten innings, while the Owls won the second game, 5-0.
Dominican got on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning as Michael Munoz (Bronx, NY) hit an RBI double to score Sean Brown (Massapequa, NY) who received a free pass after getting hit by the Owl pitcher.
SCSU tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the sixth after leading off the inning with a single and later scoring on an error. The Owls went ahead in the eighth on an RBI single, but DC came back in the bottom stanza to knot the game at 2-2. Freshman Dan Robinson (Massapequa, NY) hit an RBI double to score Mario Lopez (Anthony, NM) who had led off the inning with a walk.
In the bottom of the tenth, Lopez singled and later scored as Brown was hit with the bases loaded and lifted DC to the 3-2 victory. Jack Crawford (Montgomery, NY) picked up the win.
The second game saw the Owl pitching limit DC to just two runs. Tommy Mejia (Brooklyn, NY) took the loss in 6 2/3 innings of work, allowing five runs (two earned) on nine hits.
