Baseball Sweeps Bloomfield College 

Blauvelt, NY (5/5/07) The Dominican College baseball team swept a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double header from Bloomfield College this afternoon.  The Chargers won the first game 11-10 and took the night cap 14-1 to clinch a spot in the upcoming CACC Baseball Tournament next weekend.

In game one, the Chargers took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first when Joe DiMicelli (Staten Island, NY) and Jose Escalera (Bronx, NY) had back to back RBI singles.

The Deacons fired back to take a 4-3 with a run in the second on a Robert Beyer (Edison, NJ) solo home run and RBI singles to Kevin Lauranzon (Dissputanta, VA) and Eric Tanis (Pequannock, NJ) in the third and another RBI single to Lauranzon in the fifth.

In the bottom of the sixth when freshman Willie Mann (Patterson, NY) hit a home run to left field to tie the game at 4-4. 

DC exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the eighth on six hits and one BC error.  Jose Made (Binghamton, NY) had an RBI double to right, followed by an RBI walk to designated hitter DiMicelli and a Bloomfield throwing error which allowed two more runs to score.  Senior catcher Peter Gilardo (Cornwall, NY) hit a two run blast to left field as Dominican took a 11-5 lead.

Edwin Pagan (Burlington, NJ) led off the ninth with a solo shot for the Deacons, Tanis had an RBI single and Beyer had an RBI walk but it wouldn't be enough as DC held on for the 11-10 victory.

Reliever Dan Bucci (Dobbs Ferry, NY) got the win. while Jon Walsh (Saddle Brook, NJ) received the loss.

In game two,  Dominican pounded out 20 hits against four different Deacon pitchers.  DC held a 2-0 lead on a two run double to right center by Made in the second inning.  They added nine runs in the third on a RBI double by DiMicelli, another two run blast by Gilardo, a three run double by Made and a two run homer to left by second basemen Yordis Veras (East Elmhurst, NY) to take a commanding 11-0 lead.

Gilardo hit his third home run of the day in the fifth, this time a solo shot to left field and Dominican added two runs in the seventh on an RBI double by Tommy Maloney (Massapequa Park, NY) and a RBI single by DiMicelli to hold a 14-0 lead.

The Deacons got on the board in the top of the ninth on an RBI single by Jonathan Moehig (Clarkston, MI) scoring David Mignano (Cortland Manor, NY) who reached base on a walk.

Charger starter Matt Dilgen (Staten Island, NY) got the win going eight innings, scattering four hits and six strikeouts.

Deacon starter John Anderson (Manville, NJ) suffered the loss, giviing up 11 runs on 14 hits.

Dominican is back in action next weekend in the CACC Tournament held hosted by Wilmington College.
