Chargers Upend Millersville, 10-3
Blauvelt, NY (4/24/07) The Dominican College Chargers baseball team visiting Millersville University, 10-3, this afternoon in a non-conference baseball game at Veteran’s Memorial Park. With the win, Dominican improves to 14-12, while Millersville falls to 9-33.
Millersville took a 3-0 lead in the top of the third as Ricky Caravaggio (Lake Grove, NY) got a one out infield single moved to second on a walk to Enrique Arroyo (Bensalem, PA) and moved to third on a DC error to load the bases. Cody Wile (Lancaster, PA) hit a single to right to score two runs and Andy Dochterman (Lancaster, PA) scored Wile’s failed attempt to steal second base.
Dominican got on the board in the bottom of the fifth as senior Tom Keegan (Dickson city, PA) and freshman Willie Mann (Patterson, NY) led off the inning with back to back singles up the middle. Three Millersville errors allowed three runs to score, followed by a sacrifice fly ball to center field by sophomore Jose Made (Binghamton, NY) to give the Chargers a 4-3 lead. Senior Joe DiMicelli (Staten Island, NY) hit a two out single to left field to score Ed Dolan (Cliffside Park, NJ) , who got on with an infield single, extending the DC lead to 5-3.
DC added two runs in the bottom of the sixth as Dolan had an RBI single to left to score Yodis Veras (East Elmhurst, NY), who was hit by a pitch and went to second as the ball went under the left fielder’s glove to allow Tommy Maloney (Massapequa Park, NY) to score from first after getting on base with a single to right.
The Chargers put three more runs on the board in the bottom of the seventh as senior catcher Peter Gilardo (Cornwall, NY) and Maloney followed with a one out triple to right center to extend the lead to 10-3.
Marauder starter Ryan Stauffer (Lebanon, PA) suffered the loss (0-1), going 4 2/3 innings, allowing eight hits and five runs, zero runs earned.
Freshman Andrew Saccone (Warwick, NY) got the win, pitching three innings of relief, giving up only one hit, to improve to 1-1 on the year. Charger starter Michael Mondesir (Jamaica, NY) went four innings, allowing three runs on three hits and striking out seven Marauders. .
Dominican is back in action tomorrow when they face Nyack College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game. Game time is 7pm at Nyack High School.
