Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. (3/5/07) - The #21 ranked NSU baseball team (15-3) won their 10th consecutive game behind a no-hitter by RHP Jon Spier (Jr., Plantation, Fla.), as the Sharks defeated the Dominican College Chargers 13-0 on Monday evening at the NSU Baseball Complex.
Spier (2-2) struck out 11 Chargers while facing just four batters over the minimum during the nine-inning gem. NSU pounded out 19 hits on the evening as C Jimmy Sposa (Jr., Coconut Creek, Fla.) was 4-for-5 with a double and three RBI and 1B Bryan Cook (Jr., Rockledge, Fla.) went 3-for-4 with a double, triple and three RBI.
"Jon deserved it, he has worked hard and showed what kind of a leader he is," said head coach Michael Mominey. "Tonight was his night as he earned the no hitter."
The Sharks scored single runs in the 1st and 4th innings, a pair of runs in the 3rd, 4th, 6th and 7th innings and three runs in the 8th in support of Spier.
"I had great defense behind me including two outstanding plays by SS Shawn Langlois to keep the no-hitter in tact," said Spier. "Sposa (Jimmy) and I were on the same page all night, but the most important thing is that we won as a team."
Sharks DH Pete Simon (So., Lake Worth Fla.) went 3-for-5, LF Chris Reynolds (Sr., Pembroke Pines, Fla.) was 3-for-5 with an RBI and two runs, 2B Dale Alberto (So., Davie, Fla.) went 2-for-5 with two RBI and 1 run scored and RF Steven Emery (Sr., Hollywood, Fla.) was 1-for-2 with a two-run homerun in the 7th inning.
The Sharks return to action tomorrow evening as they entertain Dominican College at 6:00 PM at the NSU Baseball Complex.
