Blauvelt, NY (3/28/06) The Dominican College baseball team improved to 16-9 on the year after defeating St. Thomas Aquinas College, 8-6 this afternoon in a non-conference game held at Rockland Community College.

Blauvelt, NY (3/28/06) The Dominican College baseball team improved to 16-9 on the year after defeating St. Thomas Aquinas College, 8-6 this afternoon in a non-conference game held at Rockland Community College.
The Chargers jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning, after a two run double by Jose Escalera (Bronx, NY). St. Thomas Aquinas got a run back in the third, but Dominican counter with a run in the fifth to take a 5-1 lead. The Spartans added runs in the sixth, eighth and ninth, but a three run seventh inning put sealed the game for the Chargers as they came away with the 8-6 victory.
Dominican catcher Peter Gilardo (Cornwall, NY) went 4-4 in the game with two runs scored. Escalera finshed the day 2-4 with two runs scored and three RBIs. Left fielder Sean Brown (Massapequa, NY) added two RBIs in the win.
Starter Armando Tavarez (Bronx, NY) got the win, pitching six innings with six hits and striking out six strikeouts. Reliever Michael Mondesir (Jamaica, NY) picked up the save, going three innings.
The Chargers are back in action tomorrow when they travel to Felician College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game.
