Blauvelt, NY (4/28/06) The Caldwell College baseball team rallied from a 1-0 deficit to defeat league leading Dominican Chargers, 4-1 this afternoon at Schafer Field in Blauvelt, NY.
The Chargers took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second when third basemen Tom Keegan (Dickson City, PA) took a 2-2 pitch deep to left field for the solo home run.
Caldwell answered back in the top of the third as Chris Chiarappa (Elmont, NY) led off the inning with a walk and advanced to second on a balk. Joe Hydro (Flemington, NJ) followed with another walk and both runners advanced on the sacrifice bunt by Tommy Murphy (Monroe, NY). Billy Ryan's (Toms River, NJ) RBI ground out brought in Chiarappa and Landon Viessy (Oakland Gardens, NY) hit an RBI single to right as the Cougars went up 2-1.
CC added to the lead in the fourth as Jorge Torres (Coral Springs, FL) singled to left to lead off the inning, went to second on a fielder's choice and came in to score on the sacrifice fly to left by Chiarappa.
The final run of the game for Caldwell came in the eighth inning as Viessy led off the inning with a single to right, moved to second on the ground out and later scored on the two out single to left by Eric Thiess (Deer Park, NY) to put Caldwell up, 4-1.
Caldwell pitcher Stephen Pfeil (Hampstead, NH) got the complete game victory allowing 10 hits and striking out nine batters.
Dominican starter Tommy Mejia (Brooklyn, NY) suffered his first loss of the season (7-1), going 7 2/3 innings and allowing four runs, seven hits and striking out six.
With the win, Caldwell improves 18-21 overall and 11-10 in the CACC, while Dominican falls to 33-13 overall and 20-3 in the CACC.
DC is back in action tomorrow when they travel to Caldwell
