Philadelphia, PA (4/9/06) The Dominican College baseball team defeated the Philadelphia Univeristy Rams, 15-5 this afternoon at Alumni Field in Philadelphia.
Dominican held a 5-4 lead through five innings when they exploded with six runs in the top of the sixth to extend their lead to 11-4. DC added three runs in the top of the seventh and one in the eighth to build a 15-4 lead. The Rams got a run back in the ninth for the final 15-5 Charger victory.
Mike Zani (Goshen, NY) and Keith Gebert (Brooklyn, NY) led the Chargers with three hits a piece with Gebert contributing a double. First basemen Jose Escalera (Bronx, NY) went 2-5 with a run scored and a game leading five RBIs. Four other Dominican players had a two hit day in the win.
Freshman Jose Made (Binghamton, NY) hit his first collegiate home run in the win. Dominican starter Tommy Mejia (Brooklyn, NY) improved his record to 6-0 on the year, going six innings and allowing five hits and striking out five batters. Michael Mondesir (Jamaica, NY) and Ray Cueto (Bronx, NY) pitched the final three innings for the Chargers.
The Chargers are back in action tomorrow afternoon when they host Nyack College.
