#19/#20 WOMEN'S LACROSSE DEFEATS PURPLE KNIGHTS
Orangeburg, N.Y. (3/17/26) The Dominican University New York women's lacrosse team, currently ranked #19 in the latest IWLCA Division II Coaches Poll and #20 in the USA Lacrosse Division II Women's Top 20, defeated the visiting Purple Knights of Saint Michael's College, 13-8, this afternoon in non-conference action on O'Brien Field.
With the win, the Lady Chargers improve to 3-3 on the season.
Both teams traded goals in the first period to see the game tied at 2-all. SMC scored the first goal of the second quarter, but DUNY closed out the quarter on a 3-0 run to go ahead 5-3 at the intermission. Red-shirt freshman Kate Frae got the run going with an unassisted goal, followed by a score by Rylie McGhan off the assist of Madison Mileti. Mileti then closed out the period with an unassisted goal.
The Purple Knights scored the first goal of the third quarter to cut the lead to 5-4, however Dominican would outscore SMC, 4-2 over the remaining nine and a half minutes of the period to jump ahead 9-6.
In the final quarter, the Lady Chargers scored the first three goals with one off the stick of Mileti and two by senior Madelyn Grella with the assist credited to Mileti to extend the lead to 12-6. SMC scored back-to-back goals and DUNY closed out the game with a goal by Alexa Preston for the final 13-8 win.
Grella and McGhan led the Lady Chargers with four goals a-piece in the win.
Mileti finished with three goals and two assists, while Frae and Preston both had one goal and one assist.
Lady Charger goalie Daniela Parisi made 12 saves.
Dominican returns to action on Saturday when they open up Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play against Chestnut Hill College on O'Brien Field.
