WOMEN'S LACROSSE EXTENDS WINNING STREAK WITH VICTORY OVER CHESTNUT HILL COLLEGE

Orangeburg, NY (4/7/11) The Dominican College women's lacrosse team revenged an overtime loss earlier in the season by defeating the visiting Griffins of Chestnut Hill College, 11-7, this afternoon in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game played on the DC Lacrosse Field. With the win Dominican extends their winning streak to four games and improves to 6-2 overall and 5-1 in conference play.

Orangeburg, NY (4/7/11)  The Dominican College women's lacrosse team revenged an overtime loss earlier in the season by defeating the visiting Griffins of Chestnut Hill College, 11-7, this afternoon in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game played on the DC Lacrosse Field.  With the win Dominican extends their winning streak to four games and improves to 6-2 overall and 5-1 in conference play.

Attackers Aubree Williams (Great Meadows, NJ), Brianna Blank (Point Pleasant, NJ) and Michelle Fiorvanti (Commack, NY) all had two goals a-piece in the victory.

CACC Rookie of the Week, Amanda Caprio (Point Pleasant, NJ) made nine saves.

Williams netted her 13th goal of the season with 27:42 left to play in the first half, but the Griffins tied the score, 1-1, converting a free position shot while being a man down.  Williams regained a 2-1 advantage with her second goal in 7:22.

CHC once again tied the score (2-2), but Blank scored her 15th goal of the season off the assist from Caitlin Murray (Oakdale, NY) to give DC a 3-2 lead at halftime.

The scoring picked up in the second half as a total of 13 goals were scored.  Senior Sarah Kiernan (Saugerties, NY) scored her tenth goal of the season off the pass from Silje Karlsen (Vernon, NJ) just 47 seconds into the second half to give Dominican a 4-2 edge.  Another man-down goal by Chestnut Hill cut the lead to a lone goal (4-3), but a 3-0 spurt by DC put them ahead 7-3.  Freshman Maggie Brocklebank (Long Branch, NJ) tallied her 15th goal of the season with 21:08 to play and Blank followed 45 seconds later with her second game goal off the pass from Fiorvanti.  Sophomore Elizabeth Schmidt (Montgomery, NY) closed out the run with a free position goal.

After a Griffin goal brought them within three (7-4), freshman midfielder Traci-Joan Muniz (Middlesex, NJ) recorded her ninth goal of the season to regain a four-goal lead for the Lady Chargers.  Another CHC goal with 11:32 on the clock brought them to within three, but DC answered back with two consecutive goals off the sticks of Murray on a free position shot and Fiorvanti off the assist from Blank to make the score 10-5.

Two straight Griffin goals brought them back to within three (10-7) with 3:39 to play, but Fiorvanti closed out the scoring with the unassisted goal with 0:23 to play for the 11-7 victory.
