LADY CHARGERS UPEND WILDCATS
Orangeburg, N.Y. (1/3/26) The Dominican University New York women's basketball team defeated the Wildcats of Wilmington University this afternoon in CACC action on Coach Baxter Court in the Hennessy Center.
The Lady Chargers defeated the Wildcats 53-45 to improve to 4-8 overall and 2-3 in conference play. The Wildcats fall to 0-13 overall and 0-6 in the CACC.
The Lady Chargers got off to a slow start offensively in the opening quarter but doubled their points total in the second quarter. Dominican held the Wildcats to just five points in the second quarter and held a four point lead at half.
Tamia Nunes and Cayla Howard combined for 12 points of the 19 points DU scored in the third quarter and extended to a double-digit lead.
Dominican added to their lead and built a 13-point lead which was their largest of the game in the fourth quarter on their way to the win.
Howard finished the game with a team-high 13 points while adding seven boards, four assists, four steals, and one block.
Nunes recorded a double-double by scoring 12 points and picked up a team-high 10 boards. Nunes also added a team-high five steals while also dishing out four assists and recorded two blocks.
Ketura Rutty provided a boost off the bench with 12 points on 5-9 from the field along with six rebounds. Emma Gribben added five rebounds while Dalana Taylor scored seven points and added four rebounds.
Dominican outscored Wilmington in the paint 26-24 and added 17 total bench points. The Lady Chargers scored 20 points off of Wilmington turnovers.
The Lady Chargers return to action on Tuesday night when they host Felician University at 5:30 PM in the Hennessy Center.
