LADY CHARGERS TAKE DOWN OWLS IN NON-CONFERENCE CONTEST
Orangeburg, N.Y. (12/16/25) The Dominican University New York women's basketball team defeated the Owls of Southern Connecticut State University in non-conference action on Coach Baxter Court.
Dominican improves to 3-7 overall while SCSU falls to 5-3 overall on the season.
The Owls led most of the first half but the Lady Chargers finished the last five minutes of the opening half outscoring SCSU 16-8. Dominican scored a total of 25 points in the second quarter led by Cayla Howard who scored nine points in the quarter.
Dominican extended to their largest lead of the game in the third quarter which was nine points. The Owls answered back using a 13-3 run over five minutes of play to regain the lead.
Dominican ended the run and finished the third quarter on a 10-4 run. SCSU would cut the DU lead to one point but the Lady Chargers never lost the lead on their way to the 72-67 victory.
Howard led the Lady Chargers with 20 points on 6-10 from the field and 3-6 from beyond the arc. Howard pulled in three boards while adding three steals, one assist, and a team-high four blocks.
Freshman Sky Priester scored 13 points on 5-10 from the field while adding four rebounds and dished out four assists. Freshman Ketura Rutty provided 15 points on 5-7 from the field and 5-6 from the charity stripe. Rutty picked up a team-high seven boards.
Junior Tamia Nunes finished with 11 points, six boards, three assists, and one steal. Nunes went 3-6 from three-point range.
The Lady Chargers finished the game with a 48.9% field goal percentage and went 18-20 from the charity stripe as a team.
Dominican returns to action this Friday afternoon when they visit American International College for a non-conference contest at 1:30 PM.
