TIGERS UPEND LADY CHARGERS IN CACC OPENER
Orangeburg, N.Y. (11/25/25) The Dominican University New York women's basketball team opened CACC play against the Tigers of Holy Family University on Coach Baxter Court in the Hennessy Center.
The Tigers used a big offensive second half to propel them to the 79-65 victory as they improved to 4-1 overall and 1-0 in the CACC.
After the loss, the Lady Chargers fall to 1-4 overall and 0-1 in conference play.
The Tigers held a 22-17 lead after the opening quarter and after a low scoring second quarter, HFU led DU 32-25 by halftime.
The Tigers extended to a double digit lead in the third quarter after outscoring the Lady Chargers 18-11.
Both teams had a big fourth quarter offensively as they each put up 29 points. The Tigers extended their lead to 19 points which was their largest lead of the game. The Lady Chargers only got within 10 points and could not complete the comeback as the Tigers closed out the win.
Senior Cayla Howard finished the game with 19 points, 14 in the fourth quarter, which included going 4-7 from beyond the arc and 10 boards for a double-double. Howard also recorded three blocks.
Freshman Sky Priester also finished the game with 19 points, a career high, on 8-10 from the field including one three-pointer and added two made free-throws.
Freshman Ketura Rutty and junior Tamia Nunes each scored eight points. Nunes also picked up nine boards, five in the opening quarter.
The Tigers had three players finish the game in double figures. Taylor Hinkle and Claire Dougherty each picked up a double-double. Dougherty finished with 18 points and 11 boards while Hinkle scored 17 points and also added 11 boards. Amy Ngo finished with 17 points.
Dominican held the edge in rebounds and second chance points. Holy Family outscored Dominican in the paint 36-24 and also added 24 points off the bench.
The Lady Chargers return to action on Sunday when they host Goldey-Beacom College for the 12th Annual Regina Rivera Memorial Game on Coach Baxter Court at 1:00 PM.
