LADY CHARGERS FALL TO PURPLE KNIGHTS
Colchester, VT. (11/22/25) The Dominican University New York women's basketbll team lost a non-conference game to host, Saint Michael's College, 79-76, this afternoon in a game played at the Ross Sports Center.
Following the loss, the Lady Chargers are now 1-3 on the season.
Dominican held a 16-14 advantage with thirty-two seconds left in the first quarter when they scored five straight points on a trey by guard Tamia Nunes and a steal that led to a quarter ending layup by freshman Sky Priester to extend the lead to 21-14. SMC would outscore DUNY 19-16 in the second frame to cut the lead to 37-33 at the intermission.
Senior Cayla Howard led the Lady Chargers in the first half with 19 points.
The Purple Knights rallied in the third quarter, outscoring the Lady Chargers 18-10, to claim a 51-47 advantage.
Dominican would use a layup by Ketura Rutty to cut the lead to 78-76 with with eight seconds left in regulation. After a DUNY foul, a made free throw by SMC and then a missed free throw, Nunes grabbed the defensive rebound with seven seconds remaining to give the Lady Chargers a chance to force overtime. Dominican would get the game-tying shot off with one second left, but the Purple Knights were able to come away with the 79-76 victory.
Howard led three Lady Chargers in double figures with a season high 26 points, three rebounds, two steals amd two blocks.
Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Rookie of the Week, Ketura Rutty had the game's only double-double of 18 points, 11 rebounds and four assists.
Priester recorded 17 points, five rebounds and three steals.
Junior Nunes finished with 15 points, nine rebounds and four steals.
The Lady Chargers return to action on Tuesday evening when they host Holy Family University in their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) opener. Game time is slated for 5:30 pm on Coach Baxter Court in the Hennessy Center.
